Description
Mud is the product of long-term organic processes, a sediment that can be found in the bays and lakes of Estonia.
It is rich in trace elements, humic acids and other bioactive substances. This is also the reason for the specific smell of mud, which is produced by hydrogen sulphide.
Mud therapy relieves pain, speeds up metabolism and removes excess fluids and waste products from the body. The procedure is recommended for people suffering from rheumatic joint diseases, back, neck and headaches. Mud therapy is indicated for chronic skin diseases and chronic genital inflammation. It also helps to relieve the condition of bones, joints, muscles and nerves after trauma and surgery.
The client is covered with a 2 to 3 cm layer of heated mud and wrapped in a sheet, cloth or blanket. The cardiac area is left free of mud. We have the possibility to perform the mud procedure on the whole body or, if necessary, partially – from the waist up or down. The procedure lasts 15 minutes, after which the person washes in the shower, without soap. After the procedure, we recommend an hour’s rest in a warm room, as mud treatments can cause drowsiness.
Contraindications
The procedure is not suitable for pregnant women, persons with endocrinological, psychological or blood diseases. Mud treatment should be avoided in cases of tuberculosis, cardiovascular insufficiency, hypertension, frequent haemorrhages and in periods of exacerbation of all acute or chronic diseases, especially those associated with an increase in body temperature. Mud therapy is also not recommended in the case of malignant tumours or benign tumours of the genital organs.
